Always seeking out musical and inter cultural dialogue with his songs, Folk singer songwriter, Piers Faccini has made a career out of such conversations. His latest and internationally acclaimed album, Shapes of the Fall is another reminder of the skill he has at crossing borders with songs.
Faccini who regularly collaborates with such luminaries as Ballake Sissoko, Vincent Segal, Ben Harper or Ibrahim Maalouf to name but a few has this time at the request and in collaboration with his two labels, Nø Førmat! and Beating Drum, sought out new encounters across electronic and remix cultures. Deciding to remix only one of the standout tracks from the album, his song unanimously Dunya made the cut.
The new Dunya Remixes EP reveals four different interpretations in remixed or reworked form.
First up, Natureboy Flako’s Dunya, a global groove track that sits beyond borders, next acclaimed DJ and artist Chloé with whom Faccini recently co-produced Franco-Algerian Yelli Yelli’s 2nd album, with her stunning remix of Dunya, highlighting the danceable North African Gnawa rhythms and blending her signature hypnotic electronic palette of pulsing sounds. Next up the Franco-Lebanese, Bachar Mar Khalife’s gorgeous string drenched evocation of Dunya while last but not least, Léonie Pernet’s Afro-synth pop reworking of the original bringing Dunya straight onto the dance floor.
